Louis CK: 2017 (2017)

For the last few years it seems as though comedian Louis CK has been trying unsuccessfully to shift his brand away from the “everyman” persona he previously crafted for himself, and he stumbles here yet again by signalling a new version of himself through his attire (full dress suit instead of his usual sweat-drenched T-shirt), while the majority of his material has stagnated long ago. The righteous anger and self-amused smirk have been replaced with bitter, humorless cynicism, and much of “2017” feels more like a self-righteous rant about nothing in particular than it does anything incisive or relevant.
