Elle King – Love Stuff (2015)

Led off by the one-two punch of “Where the Devil Don’t Go” and the addictive “Ex’s and Oh’s,” Elle King’s debut album somehow manages to sound both retro and contemporary all at once, probably thanks to its fusion of The White Stripes and the soul influences of both Adele and Amy Winehouse. While most of the songs manage to hit home, standouts like “I Told I Was Mean” and “Song of Sorrow” demarcate this album as something special, the kind of debut album that sounds great on its own but also suggests its artist has plenty more to offer.
