Nightmares in Red, White and Blue: The Evolution of the American Horror Film (2009)

A sincere and thoughtful exploration of the history of American horror cinema and its continuous evolution, this documentary makes a strong case for the serious academic study of horror’s sociological relevance in American history. Interviews with genre luminaries like John Carpenter along with cult figures like Larry Cohen make for interesting perspectives on horror, while well-selected clips from a variety of horror subgenres make the whole thing a pleasure for serious fans.
