Kyle Craft – Dolls of Highland (2016)

This is the kind of album seldom heard anymore: It’s like putting roadhouse rock, Mick Jagger preening, 70s Elton John, The White Stripes and Jobriath into a blender, and resulting in one of the most confident, arresting debut albums in recent memory. Singing with great confidence, newcomer Kyle Craft is in complete control of his sound from the first few moments, with great tracks like “Lady of the Ark” and my personal favorite, “Future Midcity Massacre” announcing the arrival of a great new talent worth watching.
