Showgirls (VIP Edition featuring commentary by David Schmader) (2005)

Fans of Paul Verhoeven’s high profile fiasco “Showgirls,” originally released in 1995, were delighted by MGM’s ten-year anniversary box set celebrating the film as a campy unintentional comedy, and part of its pleasures was the commentary track by self-described “professional Showgirls aficionado” David Schmader. A writer based in Seattle, Schmader’s annotated screenings of the movie, peppered with an endearing, hilarious mixture of unabashed love for the movie and in-depth knowledge of the movie, led to this commentary track – and redefines the experience of watching the movie itself. Highly recommended for fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000, Rifftrax, or really any fan of bad movies or famous cinema fiascos who share an interest in fan-propelled commentary.
