The Golden Girls (Season 3) (1987)

This is perhaps the first season of the classic sitcom that has a handful of weaker episodes, but even a weaker “Golden GIrls” episode is still worth watching, thanks to the four endearing lead performances. After an uneven start with episodes like “One for the Money” and the awkward, stilted “Bringing Up Baby” and “The Housekeeper,” the season finally finds it footing with classics like “The Audit” and “Brotherly Love.” This is also the season where the show started tackling serious topics like spousal abuse (in “Blanche’s Little Girl”) and senior loneliness (“And Ma Makes Three”), albeit without preachiness and keeping the laughs first.

Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)
