While nowhere near as funny as the 2001 movie, this Netflix television series is still a lot of fun, as long as one doesn’t expect too much from it. The cast is clearly relishing the opportunity to revisit the world of Camp Firewood, in particular Christopher Meloni and Bradley Cooper, which makes up for an overabundance of plot that often threatens to overwhelm the narrative. In fact, the best parts of the show are when the narrative is focused on the mundane activities of a summer camp and throws in a generous helping of absurd humor – that’s why it’s a bit of a disappointment that the show is so plot-heavy, which ultimately makes it rather confusing and occasionally forced. That being said, there’s such goodwill from the cast that you can forgive its mistakes and instead enjoy the experience, while also looking forward to the inevitable second season.
