A rare miss for the “Child’s Play” series, this fourth sequel definitely makes an effort to be unique and entertaining, but there’s too much going on at once and not much of it is particularly interesting. As a comedic team, Brad Dourif and Jennifer Tilly are as good here as they were in 1998’s “Bride of Chucky,” and Tilly seems to be having fun, playing a cartoonish version of herself not unlike Megan Mullaly’s Karen Walker. But an overly complicated subplot involving body transferring en masse, along with a wretched supporting performance by Redman, prove to be too much for the narrative to sustain, and eventually the whole movie becomes an unitentional parody of itself. Nevertheless, you could do a lot worse than this, it’s got its moments here and there.
