The Guest: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (2014)

The 2014 action-horror hybrid’s soundtrack is really a terrific album with its own distinctive lyrics and coherent sonic identity. Most of the songs included are 1980s synth or at least inspired by it, and there are many terrific tracks like “The Magician” and “Hourglass.” The real standout, however, is Swedish pop star Annie’s “Anthonio,” which is featured in the movie’s climax and is as melancholy and beautiful here as it is in the movie. While the movie hasn’t quite found its audience yet, the soundtrack album manages to exist on its own terms and is a satisfying experience even for those unfamiliar with its source movie.
