Madonna – Revolutionary Heart (2015)

Made up of 15 demos and unreleased songs from Madonna’s “Rebel Heart” sessions, “Revolutionary Heart” is an unofficial bootleg album that shows the famously guarded superstar’s softer side. Many of the tracks here, like “Queen” and “Heaven,” feature some of Madonna’s clearest, most effective lyrics as well as some of her most effectively subdued vocals, while others like the Kylie Minogue sound-a-like “Tonight” and “Take a Day” show off her more playful side. While the sound quality is occasionally subpar (not surprising, given its bootleg status), its an interesting companion piece to “Rebel Heart” and a delight for fans of the legendary pop star. A particular delight is “Two Steps Behind Me,” which seems clearly aimed at Lady Gaga.

Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)
