In retrospect, it’s almost inconceivable that this 1974 rip-off of “The Exorcist” was controversial enough to be pulled out of theaters. Warner Bros sued the movie out of distribution over allegations of copyright infringement over many of its possession scenes, which were clearly “inspired” by “The Exorcist,” and that’s really the only interesting thing about the movie. Other than that context, it’s plodding, repetitive and poorly acted, with an inexplicable X rating and very few memorable scenes (although a few shots here and there are surprisingly creepy, like the first possession scene in the bedroom). It’s cool to watch if you’re a horror fan, but just don’t expect to live up to its infamy.
