Although it comes short of matching the midnight-movie atmosphere of the 1988 original, this direct-to-video sequel is a surprisingly effective little chiller. There’s lots of chemistry among the cast, and in particular, Jennifer Rhodes (of “Seinfeld” and “Heathers”) seems to be having a great time playing a butt-kicking nun. Amelia Kinkade is as sinister here as she was in the original, and there are plenty of nifty sequences – in particular, a reptilian climax that comes out of nowhere and ends the movie on a high note. It’s one of the most striking entries to come out of the ’90s direct-to-video horror subgenre that delighted me to no end as a teenager, so I’ll always have a soft spot for it.
