No better or worse than the 1978 original, this barely related sequel was James Cameron’s first movie (although he later stated that he was fired after two weeks, with Ovidio G. Assonitis taking over). It’s got plenty of weak moments and strange elements that, I think, are intended to be humorous but come across as inexplicable, but there’s something charming about this unapologetic B-movie. From a snorkeling sex scene to flying piranhas to an early role for Lance Henrikensen, there’s plenty here for genre fans to sink their teeth into, and one could do a lot worse than this.
