Cult of Chucky (2017)

It’s almost inconceivable that the “Child’s Play” series has arrived at its seventh entry still fresh and inventive, but here we are. This is the best kind of horror sequel: It’s clearly designed to entertain and please longtime fans, with a series of related events that tie back to either the original first movies or its meta reinvention in the 1990s. For passive watchers it may be impossible to piece this one’s plot together (especially those who haven’t seen 2013’s “Curse of Chucky”, which represented the third shift in tone for the series), and while there are definitely elements that don’t add up perfectly and obvious budgetary limitations, this is one hell of a new entry in a long-running series.
