The Office (Season 4) (2007)

It’s often clear throughout this fourth season of NBC’s reboot of the BBC sitcom that the producers were stretching the characters further and headed towards a more mainstream mode for the show. Much has become cartoonish and occasionally one-dimensional, not to mention many 45-minute episodes that feel padded and rhythmically off somehow, but the show is so well-acted and the writing is so strong that you can’t help but go along for the ride. Steve Carell’s Michael is, of course, still the best thing about the show.
