Poised, confident and in complete control of her tremendous voice, Mariah Carey delivered a blockbuster debut album that announced the proud launch of a major talent. Not unlike Celine Dion’s English-language breakthrough “Unison,” “Mariah Carey” is filled to the brim with radio-friendly ballads and upbeat R&B classics, like “I Don’t Wanna Cry”, “Someday” and my personal favorite, “Love Takes Time.” It’s not a deep or revolutionary affair, but it’s filled with strong pop music and sure is a whole lot of fun.
