This latest adaptation of a Stephen King property is a pretty good little horror-thriller. Thomas Jane is well-cast as a farmer in the titular year, conspiring against his wife with his teenage son and the growing ramifications their actions have on themselves and their surroundings. It’s obvious that there’s plenty more emotional texture in the novella that adds verisimilitude, but there are enough literary bones left over that fill the gaps when the plot starts to go a little too fast. It’s nothing to write home about but it definitely has its moments, and is worth watching for King fans as well as horror fans.
