One of the best slashers to be released during the post-“Scream” revival of the late 1990s, Steve Miner’s “Halloween H20” benefits enormously from the participation of “Scream” screenwriter Kevin Williamson. His knack for likable and resourceful characters is on display, not to mention his compelling use of irony in building suspense, and his studied reverence for the genre. The cast is uniformly excellent, but this one is all about Jamie Lee Curtis as original heroine Laurie Strode, who walks away with the movie thanks to a strong, effective and commanding lead performance. Ultimately this is a severely underrated sequel that deserves more recognition than it gets.
