Tori Amos – Gold Dust (2012)

Functioning as something close to a second greatest hits compilation (following 2003’s “Tales of a Librarian”), “Gold Dust” is a majestic, orchestral version of many of Tori Amos’ songs. Here, Amos seems calmer behind the piano and microphone than in many of the original recordings, which lends a grandiosity and majesty to songs that may not have sounded ripe for such arrangements. The move from piano to strings and guitars instead results in a sonically unique, occasionally baroque album that’s lovely from beginning to end, but may be primarily for fans than newcomers.
