PJ Harvey & John Parish – A Woman A Man Walked By (2009)

As a big fan of PJ Harvey, it pains me to admit this, but I found very little interesting about this album. Just the same as their previous collaboration album, 1996’s “Dance Hall at Louse Point,” it seems as though Harvey and John Parish bring out the worst in each other: Harvey here often employs a high-pitched wail in lieu of her more pleasing vocal styling, while Parish’s riffs go on for far too long, without ever seeming to find a melody. If it weren’t for the startling, rocking opener “Black Hearted Love,” there would essentially be no reason to listen to this album other than for die-hards of either artist.
