Rifftrax: “I Believe in Santa Claus” (2015)

A personal early childhood favorite of mine, Christian Gion’ s deeply peculiar French family musical delighted me to no end as a young child, but has a litany of questionable moments and an inappropriate sensibility that baffle me as an adult. Originally released as “J’ai rencontré le Père Noël,” the Rifftrax addresses the English dubbed version, which has the unfortunate effect of highlighting the empty plot and the baffling lack of common sense by all the characters. Gion’s direction is actively terrible, with poorly shot musical numbers edited with the enthusiasm of an insomniac. The gang has a great time diving into this one, and it’s a terrific commentary track to go with such an aggressively sloppy movie.
