A swift shift in tone does “Broad City” well, following the rather unfortunate zaniness that preceded it in the third season. Here, we find Abbi and Ilana facing a Donald Trump presidency and all its implications, which are amplified for socially progressive women fighting for their place at the table – the humor is clearly both cathartic and angry, displaying pride in deliberately deployed shrillness that both parodies and underlines negative female stereotypes. Of course, both Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer are pitch-perfect in every scene, and it’s nice to see more of Glazer’s down-to-earth side following a few dramatic moments in the previous season.
