Little Richard – Here’s Little Richard (1957)

I don’t know what came over me but a few weeks back, the appeal of a Little Richard album spoke to me… and much to my happiness, it turned out to be the right instinct. This debut album from the still-rocking live-wire is everything you’d expect a 1950s rock album to be: The energy is fiery and breathless, Richard’s vocal delivery is powerful and commanding, while the lyrics and arrangements are simple yet thoroughly effective from the first few notes. Older rock albums like this one always have a special place in my heart, and discovering this one felt like a privilege, so I suppose it’s not a leap to declare that I’m now a Little Richard fan much to own surprise.
