Janet Jackson – Discipline (2008)

Although it’s overlong and has an abundance of negligible tracks, Janet Jackson’s “Discipline” is a stronger album than its reputation suggests. Singles like the sleek, pumping “Feedback” and the addictive “Rock With U” were clearly pitched as comeback tracks, and while they didn’t achieve that for the beleaguered superstar, they nevertheless represent some of her best latter work. Other tracks like “So Much Betta” and “The I” reinforce Jackson’s genre-hopping tendencies, and while a number of songs don’t register (like “Truth or Dare” or “What’s Ur Name”), there’s enough here to warrant a few repeated listens.
