Mylène Farmer: Stade de France (2009)

There’s no one else quite like Mylène Farmer, and there’s nothing quite like a Mylene Farmer concert. With grace, calm, and warmth, the European superstar takes the stage here in her fifth tour, a lengthy, touching, and exciting pop show that runs well over two hours and yet feels like it’s over in a flash. The singer has a strong catalog of terrific songs, which is highlighted here throughout the show thanks to a judicious mixture of new and old songs, but what makes this all the more special is her rapport with her adoring audience: There’s a palpable sense of mania throughout the show, with her enthralled audience becoming as much of a part of the experience of watching the show as the wonderful costumes by Jean-Paul Gaultier or the ebullient dancers. This is the type of top-notch pop concert that can be appreciated by anyone, even those with no working knowledge of French.
