The Golden Girls (Season 6) (1990)

A bit of a return to form following a disappointing fifth season for the classic sitcom, Season 6 continues the show’s late-game trend of silly stories peppered with hilarious one-liners but does it without much of the preachiness that marred the previous season’s comedic momentum. Classic episodes like “Once in St. Olaf” (featuring an effective turn by Don Ameche) and “Zborn Again” manage to propel the show’s overall arc forward, but it’s episodes like “Wham, Bam, Thank You, Mammy” and, especially, the haunting and heartbreaking “Mrs. George Devereaux” and “Ebbtide’s Revenge” that show the versatility of the show’s comedic actresses, who tackle the dramatic material here with gusto and sincerity.
