The oddball sketch comedy show continues to chug along with this seventh season, but there’s something definitely missing this time around. The sketches are meandering and often aimless, delivering very few outright laughs and barely earning chuckles, while leads Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen seem distracted and, well, checked out. It’s incredible that the show even continues at this point, as lazy, disposable episodes like “Carrie Dates a Hunk” and “Friend Replacement” (among others) are fast becoming the norm. “Separation Anxiety” is a stand-out among the otherwise weak entries, but even it doesn’t rank as one of the show’s finest moments.
