Kathy Griffin: Balls of Steel (2009)

As with most of Kathy Griffin’s numerous specials, “Balls of Steel” is a solid, funny hour of gossipy dish with the controversial comic, who riffs on her usual targets here (Oprah Winfrey, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears, etc), much to her audience’s delight. It’s akin to a pop culture catch-up session with a good friend, and like most of Griffin’s work, it’s a take-it-or-leave-it routine. Griffin’s repeated digressions about her run-ins with the legal department of the Bravo network (for whom she often works) is a nice touch that she uses just the right amount of times.
