The first half of this Canadian band’s debut album is the type of strong independent pop music that goes for the jugular: Tracks like “I Get Around” and “True Believer” highlight Martina Sorbara’s strong vocals and her rock star presence, while the music and hooks swirl and converge together. However, after a few knockout tracks, things cool off and the album goes from outstanding to pretty good. It’s not so much that the tracks in the second half are bad, it’s that they pale in comparison to what came before. Fans of indie pop should explore this offering, which carries the strengths of a focused debut even if it can’t sustain the momentum.
