Tori Amos – Winter (EP) (1992)

Another terrific entry in the artistically satisfying arsenal of EPs and singles from the inestimable Tori Amos, “Winter” was my first exposure to the sonic landscape that Amos has crafted for herself, and I’ve never looked back. The titular track is still as lovely and haunting as it was upon release, while B-sides like “Sweet Dreams” and “Upside Down” do a great job of drawing out the strengths with melody and lyrics that Amos specializes in. But the real standout here is “Take to the Sky,” which is easily appropriated as a warrior battle cry for the kind and gentle. Highly recommended.
