Tremors 2: Aftershocks (1996)

Surprisingly solid, this direct-to-video sequel to the underrated 1990 gem is an impressively assembled movie in its own right. Mind you, it’s not up to the standards of the first one but there’s a sincere effort to deliver an effective, crowd-pleasing movie here and that good will extends to some of the movie’s minor missteps (most of which are for budget reasons). The cast is likable and charismatic, with returning star Fred Ward slipping back into his role while the newcomers are at ease with the overall semi-serious tone, with Chris Gartin emerging as a stand-out thanks to his easy-going screen presence. It’s not a great movie but it’s an effective one.

Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)
