Rather improbably, this latest sequel to the 1984 original manages to be one of the most interesting entries in the long-running series. Mind you, the bar is set pretty low, given that the franchise’s eight sequels and remake have generated few worthwhile movies. Nevertheless, director John Gulager’s entry is a surprisingly compelling continuation of the saga of He Who Walks Behind the Rows and his dominion over Nebraska’s children, and does a great job tying back to the first movie and restoring some continuity to the proceedings after a number of haphazard, disinterested sequels. In addition, the acting and writing are unexpectedly solid, and even if the plot is a little predictable the finished movie is still worth a shot for horror fans.
