Strong, consistent if unremarkable French album from the reliable, charismatic superstar. Celine Dion’s albums have a special charm that is largely attributable to Dion’s own natural warmth and her remarkable ability to maintain an active, artistically remarkable mainstream career unlike any other. Here, the performer tackles a number of surprisingly low-key, adult contemporary material that she presides over with precise and remarkable vocals, and while the overall sound flows well it never really comes alive either. Mind you that isn’t to suggest that there are no standouts, as tracks like “A Vous” and, especially, “Ordinaire” emerge as some of her most interesting work. Overall though, the album feels somehow incomplete, like there’s a piece missing from it, and so while it’s a perfectly pleasant Dion album it can’t help but feel a little underwhelming.
