Stromae – Cheese (2010)

The debut album from the hyper-talented performer isn’t quite as outstanding as his smash breakthrough “Racine Carree,” but it’s got a number of great moments in its own right. Lead single “Alors On Danse” has a terrific hook that burrows its way into the brain, and the same is true of other tracks like “Te Quiero” and “Peace or Violence,” whose structure and lyrical prowess point the way to the growth Stromae shows on his aforementioned subsequent album. There’s a bit of a lull in the middle, with a few disposable tracks like “Summertime” and “Dodo” whose musical orchestration aren’t quite as strong as their lyrics, but it’s a satisfying album overall and will surely thrill fans of house music, in particular from the 1990s.
