South Park (Season 2) (1998)

The second season of Matt Stone and Trey Parter’s irreverent, confrontational animated sitcom is an improvement over the often-unpleasant first season. Mind you, the same shock humor and aggressive, juvenile immaturity is front and center here, and you can practically hear Stone and Parker giggling to themselves over their occasionally cruel jokes, where the cruelty is part of the humor (which is routinely off-putting.) However, unlike the first season there’s a natural flow to the episodes here, with consistent writing in lieu of the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink structure that preceded it, and the result is a stronger, more enjoyable season with stand-outs like “Chicken Pox,” “Clubhouses” and “Chef Aid.”
