Somewhere between a live-action version of an animated romp and a Tim Burton-esque quasi-nightmare of a children’s movie, “Stay Tuned” is a whole lot of fun even though it’s noticeably dated. The central concept is fascinating and unique, and the movie has plenty of fun exploiting the opportunities presented by its storyline like its fake commercials and demented takes on various movies and television show. John Ritter and Pam Dawber are fun in the lead roles, although Jeffrey Jones as Spike registers more as off-putting than malevolent. Nevertheless, fans of family entertainment like “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” and “Mom and Dad Save the World” will find plenty to enjoy.
