Ice Cream Man (1995)

A sort of cross between “The Dentist,” “Dr. Giggles,” and a particularly gory episode of “Goosebumps,” “Ice Cream Man” is a strange movie. Mind you, it’s not particularly well-done, and it looks like it cost maybe seven dollars to shoot. Nevertheless, there’s an undeniable low budget charm to the proceedings that make it worth watching: There’s a great horror cast like Clint Howard, Olivia Hussey and David Naughton, who each seem to be having fun with their roles. Howard in particular seems to revel in the titular role, and there are a number of surprisingly grisly and macabre set pieces and sequences that stand out. That’s not to say that it’s good per se, it’s that it’s not nearly as bad as it initially appears.
