Not only is this seventh sequel the worst of the series, it’s likely one of the worst big studio releases of the 2000s. Director Rick Rosenthal, who helmed the effective 1981 sequel, seems to have forgotten how to make a movie entirely, seeing as nothing works here: The screenplay is negligible, the acting is atrocious (in particular Busta Rhymes, who spits out every one of his lines like he can’t wait to get them out of his mouth), the sets are cheap, the lighting is abysmal, the cinematography is dreary, etc. It’s almost impressive that a violent slasher sequel in a famously long-running franchise could be so downright forgettable.
