Coming seemingly out of nowhere, this is the little romantic comedy that could. Extraordinarily well-cast all around, this lovely teenage romance is led by the engaging Nick Robinson, navigating the perils of coming out while in high school with focus, aplomb and a refreshing lack of self-pity. The movie adeptly and directly addresses that there’s no right or wrong way to be gay and weaves it into the narrative, and while it does so from a purely mainstream perspective, it’s remarkable that this movie even exists, really. The fact that it’s absolutely lovely and entertaining from beginning to end, and has a number of romantic-comedy-style complications that don’t feel strained, results in a funny and touching crowd-pleaser.
