Madonna: I’m Going to Tell You a Secret (2005)

An unofficial sequel to 1991’s classic documentary “Madonna: Truth or Dare,” “I’m Going to Tell You a Secret” follows the same basic structure as the previous movie but updated to match Madonna’s life and career over a decade after. Here, instead of confrontational flamboyant dancers, international controversies and a litany of diva outbursts, we find Madonna seemingly happy in her marriage to Guy Ritchie and an active mother to her children, while also focusing heavily on her thunderous, crowd-pleasing 2004 “Re-Invention World Tour.” It’s fascinating to watch Madonna tap into different sides of herself depending on what each situation calls for, while the movie itself is extraordinarily well directed and edited. The energy lags in the final ten minutes as Madonna travels to Israel, but everything before that is a blast.
