Faerie Tale Theatre: “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” (1984)

One of the tamest and long-winded episodes of the show so far. It’s hard to turn the original fairy tale into an hour-long episode, given how short and rather simple it is, and the show is unable to spin a narrative worth its considerable charms. Tatum O’Neal is rather obnoxious in the lead role, while the three bears (Alex Karras, Brandis Kemp and Donovan Scott) fail to bring much energy or enthusiasm to the proceedings. Onscreen narrator Hoyt Axton is pretty much the best thing about the entire episode and his interludes are warmly welcome, but everything else is ho-hum at best.
