The Ricky Gervais Show (Season 2) (2011)

It’s hard to offer much analysis of “The Ricky Gervais Show,” as the back-to-basics approach to the show (which consists of animated segments re-appropriated from the titular podcast) limits any possible discussions. After all, the show’s general concept – which features Gervais and longtime collaborator Stephen Merchant asking a variety of questions to their mutual friend, Karl Pilkington, and laughing uproariously at his farcical thought process – is rather mean-spirited, and Gervais has a habit of doubling down on his aggressive obnoxiousness. But really, the interactions between the three are absolutely hysterical, in particular the first episode of the season (“Clive Warren”), which features the season’s funniest conversation about a hypothetical movie starring Clive Owen and Rebecca DeMornay. It’s not for everyone but it has its moments.
