It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Season 1) (2005)

While in retrospect, the gang’s antics in the first season of this cult comedy classic seem almost innocent in comparison to the damage they later inflict on themselves, each other and others, this is still a knockout inaugural season for the long-running comedic masterpiece. Thanks to the committed, surprisingly sympathetic performances by leads Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson, the show’s rough, dark edges are easier to take than they would be in the hands of a lesser cast, while the grade-A caliber writing feels effectively developed and perfected by the first episode.
