One of the best episodes of the wonderful, charming show is also one of the first I ever saw as a young child in the late 1980s. I was quite taken with the set dressing and costume design, not to mention the memorable narration by the inimitable Vincent Price. While Vanessa Redgrave seems like an odd choice for the role of the wicked stepmother, it’s that very destabilizing sentiment that her casting creates that makes her all the more memorable in it, while Elizabeth McGovern makes a fine, effectively fragile Snow White. Add in a charming supporting cast and some snappy lines for everyone, and the result is one of the most striking, immediate episodes so far.
