What a mixed bag. On the one hand it’s a lot of fun to see the original 1965 show rebooted as a serious, big-budget science-fiction television show on an A-list network like Netflix. In some ways it has the structure of the latter “Star Trek” movies; terrific special effects, exciting set pieces and thrilling, suspenseful moments that make each episode feel like one-hour movies in their own right. On the other hand, the characterization and acting completely erode any enjoyment along the way: Each member of the Robinson family is unlikable and poorly acted, and it brings any potential momentum to a screeching halt. Parker Posey makes the most out of every scene and she’s fascinating to watch, but it’s not a good sign when the audience is actively rooting for the villain by the season’s climax.
