Grease: The Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture (1978)

As both a Broadway production and a film adaptation, “Grease” has a number of detractors, but even those dissenters could hardly deny the pure joy and entertainment value of this soundtrack. As an accompaniment to the movie, it’s priceless: It includes all the finished songs from the Broadway musical that were adapted for the movie but unfortunately removed from the final movie due to pacing issues. So audiences unfamiliar with the Broadway show are free to enjoy numbers like “Freddy My Love” and “It’s Raining On Prom Night,” along with classics like “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “We Go Together” and “Greased Lightning.” It’s a rare soundtrack that feels like an experience unto its own, and should be included in any musical fan’s collection.
