Everything Sucks! (Season 1) (2018)

It’s hard not to compare this Netfix show to “Freaks and Geeks.” After all, it follows much of the same formula, only adapted from the early 1980s to the mid-1990s: There’s the pathos and pain of adolescence, the main trio of friends experiencing the pressures of high school, and the heavy leaning on nostalgia, and while the similarities are inescapable, the show still feels unique in its own right. Perhaps that’s because the characters are so well-written and developed that one gets engrossed in the dynamics in the blink of an eye, and each character is impeccably portrayed by a first-rate cast. Amidst a sea of promising talent, Peyton Kennedy, Quinn Liebling, and Patch Darragh emerge as stand-outs, each bringing extraordinary nuance and humanity to their respective roles.
