I Feel Pretty (2018)

Like Amy Schumer’s previous starring vehicles, “Trainwreck” and “Snatched,” “I Feel Pretty” has its moments but can’t quite seem to come alive. If you’re a fan of Schumer and/or her Comedy Central show “Inside Amy Schumer,” there’s plenty here to like here: The movie has a bit of a sketch-show sensibility that is noticeable but doesn’t distract from the overall tone, and it’s blessed with an effective lead performance by Schumer herself, who gamely tries to overcome some of the weaker material along the way. The movie benefits tremendously from Schumer’s on-screen friendship with Aidy Bryant and Busy Philipps, as all three performers have palpable, lived-in chemistry, but it does tend to flounder here and there.

Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)
