A great addition to Shudder’s growing catalog of Joe Bob Briggs episodes, this Thanksgiving marathon, “Dinners of Death,” includes Wes Craven’s “The Hills Have Eyes,” and while it doesn’t change my perception that the grindhouse classic is perhaps a bit overrated, it’s much more fun to watch it with Joe Bob. Of course he has oodles of esoteric knowledge about the movie’s production, history and reception, and it makes his interjections and monologues all the more endearing, as usual. The highlight of the episode is Michael Berryman from the movie itself, who has a cool, no-nonsense energy, striking camera presence and pleasant rapport with Joe Bob. I haven’t seen the other movies in this year’s Thanksgiving marathon, but if this is any indication, the rest must be a lot of fun.
