This second season of Netflix’s revival arrives cleverly presented as a marathon of six bad movies, beginning with the baffling 1988 turkey “Mac and Me.” The movie itself is a glaringly cheap and unimaginative rip-off of “E.T.,” down to the same basic structure and mirroring the 1982 classic’s plot in hilariously transparent ways. In addition, there’s so much product placement of McDonald’s and Coca-Cola, including an extended dance sequence in a McDonald’s featuring Ronald McDonald, that the movie doesn’t quite feel like a narrative unto its own but instead like an extended corporate commercial with a thin, lazy, indifferent narrative. The gang seems to be having a great time with this first episode and the movie couldn’t be a better pick for the MST3K treatment, and a number of their jokes are laugh-out-loud funny.
